Volunteering
Who are Home-Start volunteers?
Our volunteers are committed and caring people who offer their time freely.
They are usually parents themselves and bring with them personal experience, parenting skills, and knowledge of the resources available within their local area.
They are friendly and approachable and can be relied on and trusted by parents to listen without being judgemental, and to respect the needs of each individual family. See our Role Description of a typical Home-Start Volunteer
All home-visiting volunteers…
- Undertake a training course which fully prepares volunteers for their role. Training consists of online modules to undertake at home, and a face to face introductory and closing session.
- Receive lots of support both during training and after, from a designated volunteer co-ordinator.
- Can access additional training and events throughout the year.
- Receive all out of pocket expenses incurred whilst volunteering for Home-Start.

The volunteer co-ordinators are always at the end of the phone if you need them and you are encouraged if you’re not sure to talk to them. This is the most rewarding job I have ever done. I am being paid by the difference I make to people’s lives.
Trustee Board
Home-Start Exeter, East & Mid Devon’s Trustee Board is made up of local people from a wide range of backgrounds such as health, education, finance and business. The main requirements of a trustee are a real interest in the work we undertake and a willingness to be actively involved in the running of the charity. The Trustee Board is responsible for the financial security of the organisation and ensures its strong governance. We will advertise our vacancies with Reach https://reachvolunteering.org.uk/
