Home-Start Exeter, East & Mid Devon
There for parents when they need us most, because childhood can't wait
About us – including policies and downloads
Home-Start Exeter, East & Mid Devon recruits and trains volunteers to visit families in their own home, usually once a week, to provide emotional and practical support. All of the families we support must have at least one child aged five or under. Families tell us what a huge difference it makes to their lives to have that support at a time of need, often describing our volunteers as “a ray of sunshine” or a “life-line”. The best part of our work is to see the children start to thrive again as the volunteer helps the parents work through their difficulties.
Home-Start Exeter, East & Mid Devon was established in June 1986 and in 2026 we celebrate 40 years supporting families! We commenced family support throughout East Devon in 2009 and in Mid Devon at the start of 2020. The Scheme provides a service covering the region from Exeter City to Axminster in the East, including Exmouth and Cranbrook, and Tiverton, Crediton and Cullompton in Mid Devon.
Home-Start Exeter, East & Mid Devon is a member of the Home-Start UK federation but we are autonomous and responsible for our own management and our own funding. Home-Start UK provides a stringent Quality Assurance review process to ensure the charity operates effectively.
If you have any concerns about any aspect of our service, wish to make a complaint, or compliment, please see our policy here Compliments, Concerns and Complaints Policy
To complement the volunteer home-visiting service, we also run several groups – Mothers in Mind for mothers in the perinatal period with their babies, Family Wellbeing for parents and children up to school age, and Bumps and Babes.
The Charity is managed by a Trustee Board of independent members with a wealth of experience in business, finance, volunteering and fundraising.
Home-Start Exeter, East & Mid Devon employs 6 members of staff; and we have a bank of around 45 volunteers supporting families and groups.
Funding
We are funded entirely by grants and donations, and we are an independent registered incorporated charity, No: 1116385 and a Registered Company No: 5818942. Find out how you can help on our Fundraising page.
